Our Mustangs team faired pretty well this weekend in their hockey endeavors...

Friday evening they were supposed to have a game at Elyria, which we did drive all the way out there for, but some mixup had evidently occured and we had no team to play against, unless we wanted our mites to go up against a peewee or bantam group that supposedly had the ice time for their own practice as well...

Bright and early (really early) Saturday morning our boys faced-off against one of our nemesi...Rocky River. After going down 2-0 in the first period, our boys got a surge and Jack Henry scored two goals, one on an extremely nice pass from behind the net by Dillon. Aedan put in another one to get us within one of Rocky River closing out the second period. Zach was able to find the net for the tieing goal in the final period and the game ended in a 4-4 tie, which we were quite happy with.

Late Sunday afternoon we played at the North Olmsted rink and after a scoreless first period Dillon got what I think was his first goal of the year assisted by Zach and Patrick. The second period ended in a 1-1 tie, then in the third Brennan scored the game winner.

Side rant on

I'd really like for the refs to call the game as it is played and not what they "assume" these mite players will do when trying to get back onside or dragging their skates to stay on the blue line. I was in the penalty box so had a pretty good view of much of the game, and many times they called what they expected to happen and not what really happened, and that just irritates me, and it has to frustrate the skaters as well.

Side rant off

So, a 1-0-1 weekend, we'll take it. The games were all scrimmages, so no movement in the division standings.

Tonight we have a divisional game that does count in the standings against Parma at our place.

Oh, something else fun that has materialized is that this Saturday at our "practice" ice-time some of the parents and coaches will take to the ice against our boys for a fun little game. I've never actually had a stick in my hands while on the ice AND on skates before, and I don't have a helmet or gloves (I'll need to borrow some), but we'll see how I can TRY to keep up with ANY of the rest of them. Who knows, we may even have a little YouTube-age generated out of this if Kathy mans the new video camera while I'm out trying to keep from killing myself.

Just wanted to put up the quick recap to Sunday's game at Geauga.

The boys fought very hard, back and forth with the Geauga team with the game in a scoreless tie late into the 3rd period. I believe our lone goal was scored by Jack Henry during a scrum in our opponent's end. Christian got the shutout after making lots of great stops including an amazing leg save on a hard shot digging toward the net. Zach had a few chances but nothing was able to find the twine. He's also been getting hacked a lot more lately. He's been showing a little temper out there to when it happens, and we've been trying to explain that the outward show of emotion and frustration isn't helping out his team when he's not getting back into the play immediately.

This latest division win puts us at 3-4-0 for 6 points and a share of 4th place in the division with Shaker Heights currently, but they have 2 games-in-hand on us.

Our next games are all scrimmages over next weekend, against Elyria, Rocky River and North Olmsted respectively.
